Bilfinger BergerEnergy Piles

Using the energy potential of the ground, we developed an innovative and novel energy concept for a high-rise office complex in Frankfurt, Germany. In this method, bored piles not only serve to transfer building loads, they are also an integral part of the overall energy concept, where the ground is used as a source of heat and piles act as heat exchangers. All piles are fitted with small pipes to transfer the heat (or cooling - in summer) from the ground into the building where a small pump generates the required flow of exchange fluid. This way, high-rise office buildings can save remarkable amounts of energy.
