Jet grouting is an in-situ mix of natural soils with a stabilizing mixture. Generally, a mixture of cement, water and occasionally air will be injected at very high pressure (between 200 and 400 bar) through a drilling rod nozzle with a small diameter. As the grout is injected at high velocity, the jet grouting process destroys the natural soil matrix to create a mix of the stabilizer and the in-situ soils. The result is a homogeneous and continuous structural element with predetermined shape and mechanical characteristics. Most notably, the soils compressive strength and elasticity modulus increases, while its permeability simultaneously decreases. Jet grouting can be applied to a wide range of soils from non-cohesive, poorly graded granular soils to cohesive plastic clays.
